A popular Wooburn Green bakery is shutting its doors for good this week - prompting sadness from regular visitors.

The Village Bakery, on The Green, is closing on Friday, August 28, at 12pm after 12 years.

Notifying their fans on Facebook, owners Mark and Michelle highlighted how they started their business in a recession and are finishing in a pandemic - "the trials and tribulations of bakery life".

They also said a "big thank you" to all their customers who have supported them over the years in the humourous post.

The announcement has left fans of the bakery, where everything was baked on site including fresh bread, cakes and sandwiches, "devastated".

One said: "Sad to see you go but wishing you much happiness for the future."

Another said: "That’s a huge shame but you guys have worked so hard and deserve a happy and relaxing retirement! It was lovely to work with you a few years back too."
