A MAN who dialled 999 and claimed that he was going to stab his partner with a knife has been spared jail.

When officers swarmed on the Abingdon address one had to take out a Taser before Angel Jay threw the blade onto the ground.

The 46-year-old of Turner Road, Abingdon, had already admitted one count of possession of a bladed article.

He was sentenced for that offence at Oxford Crown Court today.

Outlining the case prosecutors said emergency services received a call from Jay shortly after midnight on July 24 this year.

In that call Jay claimed to have threatened his partner and said he had a knife.

Strangely, a woman was heard in the background during that call to say 'no you don't.'

Officers went to that address as a result of the call and Jay was seen outside holding a knife.

A police officer had to pull out a Taser before Jay complied and 'stabbed' the kitchen knife to the ground.

In mitigation the court heard that Jay had been drinking and the incident was described as a 'moment of madness.'

Sentencing, Judge Ian Pringle QC ordered a 12-month jail term, suspended for two years.

Jay must also complete three rehabilitation days, alcohol treatment for six months and the Building Better Relationships programme for 34 days. He must also pay a victim surcharge.
