A THIEF who broke into an Oxford home before stealing cash and mobile phones has pleaded guilty at court.

Mohammed Najadi appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday faced with one count of burglary.

Prosecutors had said that the 32-year-old of Alice Smith Square, Littlemore, Oxford, broke into an address on Alice Smith Square on May 26 this year.

During that break-in he stole two mobile phones and cash valued at £300.

Despite initially denying the offence he changed his plea at the hearing, and he will now be sentenced along with his co-accused Elvis Springer.

Springer, 57, of Banbury Road, Oxford, had already admitted his role in the same burglary and is yet to be sentenced for his part.

After Najadi's guilty plea had been entered his defence barrister Rhianna Fricker asked for an adjournment so that her client could be assessed for a residential rehabilitation programme.

She said Najadi had been a long term drug user for some years.

Presiding Judge Michael Gledhill QC agreed to adjourn the case so that Najadi could be assessed to see if he would be suitable for the programme.

If Najadi is not deemed a suitable candidate for residential rehabilitation he will be sentenced, along with Springer, for the burglary offence.

The case was adjourned until September 9 where a decision will be taken as to how Najadi will be sentenced. Springer will be sentenced for his role in the burglary at a date yet to be confirmed.

Najadi was remanded in custody in the meantime.
