They were acting on intelligence they had received that an indecent image of a child had been uploaded.

Officers seized a mobile phone and two laptops.

On examination of the devices they found a haul of illegal images depicting the abuse of children.

In total, they found 63 images in the most severe category - A, 113 in category B and 1,165 in category C.

They also found a further 3,020 'extreme pornographic images.'

The court heard that the images depicting child sex abuse featured children as young as seven years old.

In mitigation Scott Primmer, defending, said that his client had no other previous convictions and he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He added that since the offending Younger had found employment at Oxford University working with the administration of scholarships and grants.

Sentencing, Judge Maria Lamb called the images of child abuse 'appalling.'

She handed Younger an eight-month jail term which was suspended for 18 months.

As part of that sentence he must also complete 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days and pay court costs of £425 and a victim surcharge.

He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years as well as sign the sex offenders register.
