High Wycombe's traditional Christmas lights switch on has had to be cancelled this year because of the coronavirus outbreak - but fear not, there are plenty of festive events on offer.

Throughout November and December, there will be a string of Christmassy events that will be suitably socially-distanced so you can still enjoy everything the season has to offer safely.

With hundreds of people usually cramming into Frogmoor for the annual lights switch on ceremony, it was inevitable that it was not going to be able to go ahead safely this year.

Last year, hundreds of young Love Island fans made their way to the town centre as dancer Curtis Pritchard, who was starring in the Wycombe Swan panto at the time, flicked the switch and declared Christmas had officially started.

But HWBIDCo, the company that looks after the town centre, has revealed big plans to replace the traditional switch on this year instead.

There will be an immersive 'lights experience' installed and lit up around the town from Thursday, November 26.

Buildings in Frogmoor, the High Street and Desborough Road will be festively decked out with projected scenes and dancing lights scattered throughout.

The experience can be enjoyed every evening until Christmas.

And a giant LED cinema screen is going to be popping up in Frogmoor from Thursday, December 17 to Wednesday, December 23, for the Festive Film Club.

Two Christmas classics will be screened each day at 12pm and 2pm - featuring all the festive greats like Elf, Polar Express, Home Alone and more.

The screenings will be free to attend and there will be seating available, so bring a fluffy blanket and enjoy some festive fun.

On Saturday, December 19, shoppers can try their luck to win Christmas goodies galore with a special 'Spin and Win - Festive Wheel of Fortune' from 11am to 4pm.

All you need to do is show a receipt from any town centre shop or restaurant that day and take a spin. Every player is guaranteed a win but there is also a festive jackpot to hit.
