These are Bucks' most dangerous roads for cyclists

An interactive map shows you where ‘fatal’, ‘serious’ and ‘slight’ cycling accidents have happened in your area by using the latest police and government data.

More than 17 per cent of people cycle in Bucks according to the latest government statistics and that number is only set to rise. 

A Transport for Buckinghamshire spokesperson said: "We are committed to supporting and delivering continued improvements to make walking and cycling safe and attractive options for local journeys, particularly in and around our larger market towns.

"We have made a significant investment in new walking and cycling projects in recent years, and are currently rolling out a programme of ‘emergency’ pop-up walking and cycling measures across the county in response to the coronavirus pandemic, including new quiet streets and pop-up cycleways in Amersham, Aylesbury, Buckingham, Haddenham and High Wycombe."

Crash Map shows that 49 cycling accidents occurred in High Wycombe alone from 2015 to 2019.

The Department of Transport measured cycling levels during the tightest period of lockdown, from March 16 to June 1, which showed that the activity had risen by 300 per cent.  

Director of campaigns for the national cycling charity, Brake, Joshua Harris said:

"Two-thirds of adults feel that it is too dangerous to cycle on roads which is unsurprising given the threats cyclists face from fast moving motor traffic and with such limited space for cycling on our roads."

Amersham Hill had more cycling incidents than any other road in the town.

Amersham Hill in High Wycombe is an accident blackspot with four incidents recorded during this five year period - more than any road in the town.

Desborough Road also saw three 'slight' incidents from 2015 to 2019. 

The worst town for cycling accidents was Aylesbury which had 95 reported incidents.

Aylesbury is the worst place in Buckinghamshire for cycling accidents.

The Bicester Road to Griffin Lane Roundabout is an accident blackspot with five 'slight' accidents.

The busy Bicester Road to A4157 roundabout is also a danger zone for cyclists with six accidents being recorded, two of which were 'serious' between 2014 and 2019.

The High Street had no reported accidents except at the A418 roundabout which saw four 'slight' incidents.  

In Marlow 14 cycling accidents were recorded during the same period, with the majority occurring in the town centre. 

Most accidents in Marlow were concentrated to the town centre.

The A4155 had two accidents, one of which was a 'serious' incident involving two vehicles. 

Just down the road at the top of the High Street there were a further two accidents with one serious incident occurring in 2017.

In Beaconsfield there were 11 recorded incidents, with a blackspot appearing at the B474 roundabouts off Burkes Road where there were three 'slight' accidents.
