An Amersham home care company will do their bit to raise the awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s with a memory walk this weekend.

Ashridge Home Care, which is based in Saint Mary’s Court, will see friends and relatives of those who have the condition, meet up at Ashridge Forest near Tring.

The socially distanced walk aims to show the impact dementia and Alzheimer’s have on people: both the patients and their loved ones.

The walk will take place on Sunday, September 27.

Founder and managing director Trudi Scrivener said: “A #memorywalk is a fantastic way to make a real difference for people affected by dementia.

“Whether you walk 10,000 steps, 10 miles or for 10 minutes, get ready to make it your walk, your way.

“You can choose to walk on your own, with clients, friends or family or even your four-legged friends.”

Ashridge Home Care specialises in supporting clients with dementia, be that individuals or couples and offer 24-hour live-in care.

All the head office staff are dementia champions, and the carers are specially trained to understand how to help clients living with dementia, make the most of their life.

Additionally, the care home launched their first-ever dementia-friendly exercise classes before lockdown, with Trudi leading the committee campaigning to make Princes Risborough a dementia-friendly town.

She continued: “Our carers are fully trained in dementia care, and we encourage the use of many specialist methods and techniques to help keep your loved one content and engaged.

“We spend a great deal of time getting to know the person in our care – what makes them tick, what their interests are, and how they like things to be.

“Anyone who has a loved one living with dementia will know that there are good days and bad days, and for us, dementia care is all about acknowledging this.

“It’s about making the most of the good days and providing extra reassurance and attention to detail for the not-so-good-days.”
