THE High Sheriff of Cumbria received the ‘warmest of welcomes’ during her trip to Barrow and Dalton.

Julie Barton arrived in Barrow and Dalton as part of a visit to south of the county.

Mrs Barton was appointed to the role in March and has chosen to focus on tackling social isolation and loneliness as the theme for her year.

During her visit to Barrow, Mrs Barton met with Barrow Mayor Kevin Hamilton and Barrow Business Improvement D Manager Colin Garnett.

She said: “Barrow’s Town Hall must be one of the most fascinating town halls in the country.

“It was also really enjoyable to visit the busy Barrow Indoor Market , as well as The Owl Sanctuary and Furness Home Interiors in its new shop.

“I can recommend the cafe at The Forum. No visit to Barrow should miss out The Dock Museum with its great play area and fabulous boat models.

“Thank you to everyone for a very enjoyable tour. “

Mrs Barton also visited Dalton during her trip where she received the ‘warmest of welcomes’.

She said: “I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Dalton with Dalton Mayor Nick Perie.

“I know Dalton well and always enjoy visiting, but it was good to meet with so many great businesses as well as with individuals who have supported others during the pandemic.

“No wonder a colleague of mine always refers to Dalton as ‘God’s Green Acre.’ It’s a lovely place to visit.

“Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome.”
