A MAN has died at a nature reserve, after falling approximately 100 metres at Wharton Crag.

On Saturday morning, Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team (BPMRT) received calls from the North West Ambulance Service and Lancashire Police relaying reports of the man's fall.

The first of the 18 BPMRT members who arrived on scene, helped by nature volunteers from the surrounding area, is understood to have attempted performing CPR.

However, by the time the Great North Air Ambulance service arrived, the man had been pronounced dead.

After the police duty inspector and scene of crime officer had both completed their duties at scene, the rescue team carried the deceased from the bottom of the crag to the carpark on BPMRT's mountain rescue bell stretcher.

BPMRT thanked its team members, area volunteers and all other agencies involved.

On its social media page, the team said: "Our thoughts go to the deceased's family for which will be a very difficult time."
