A PRIMARY school has confirmed a member of the kitchen staff has tested positive for coronavirus.

All the canteen staff at Windmill Primary School are now self-isolating for 14 days.

Headteacher Lynn Knapp told parents on Facebook and said that there is a ‘negligible’ chance that the virus has been transmitted through the food because of the strict hygiene – like wearing gloves for prepping the food.

No children or other teachers were in contact with the woman so the school will be deep cleaning the kitchen and carrying on as usual with new staff from an agency today.

This is the post in full: “I am writing to let you know that yesterday, a member of school kitchen staff tested positive for coronavirus.

“As a result, the School Lunch Company have told all members of kitchen staff they need to self isolate for 14 days.

“Following a risk assessment that was carried out with the DFE (Department for education) helpline team and the school, we have identified that no member of the school staff team or any children were in contact with the person when she was infectious.

“Therefore there is no need for anyone else to self-isolate.

“The kitchen staff have been following tight hygiene procedures including wearing gloves for food preparation so the risk of the virus having been transmitted trough food is negligible.

“The kitchen will be deep cleaned this morning and a new team of staff from the School Lunch Company will be brought in to make the school lunches today, following the deep clean.
