PLANS for next year's Pride event in Wokingham have been released.

Organisers for next year's event in Wokingham held a virtual meeting on September 9, to discuss ideas for the 2021 event, set to take place on July 10.

Plans include a family picnic gathering on Elms Field, potentially with food stalls and relevant support groups and commercial stalls attending, live speakers from LGBT+ support groups, and possibly using a gazebo or an alternative indoor venue in case of bad weather.

It was also decided at the meeting, if it is possible in terms of lockdown restrictions, libraries across the borough will be used to highlight the associated support groups.

According to event organisers, the purpose of hosting a pride event within the town is to "offer access to information and support for LGBT+ people and their extended families across the Wokingham Borough," as well as "Encourage schools, churches, employers and community groups to look at what they can do to support during the week of Wokingham Pride and on a year round basis."

Rachel Bishop-Firth, Wokingham Pride 2021 organiser, said: "We would love if volunteers who are willing to help organise the event would drop us a line in the Wokingham Pride Facebook page.

"The size of the event really depends on how many people are willing to help or to enjoy the event."
