A country park in Hurst had to temporarily close this week, due to excess flooding.

Dinton Pastures Country Park, which is accessible from Woodley and Hurst, announced its closure on Facebook on Sunday, October 4.

A spokesman for Dinton Pastures Country Park said: "Dinton Pastures Country Park is closed due to extreme flood water.

"We will reassess the footpaths tomorrow morning and provide an update. For now the footpaths are closed and car park machines have been taken out of order.

"Please visit a other time. Thank you."

After an inspection the following morning, Dinton Pastures announced that "Floodwater has subsided" and they have reopened.

Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure, said: “On Friday and Saturday, (2 and 3 October) we had over 87mm of rain – the wettest 48 hour period on record for our borough.

"Unfortunately, the Emm Brook burst its banks, which led to flooding at Dinton Pastures Country Park, primarily around the main car park, the footpath near the activity centre and at the Sandford Lake pathway, which is sadly still underwater.

"In response to this localised flooding we made the decision the close the country park on Sunday 4 October.

"Across the borough, we also delivered more than 500 sandbags and attended more than 40 calls for assistance.

"We are pleased to report that work is already underway to raise the footpath by the activity centre to help prevent flood risk in future.

"Thank you to the Dinton team for their hard work clearing the paths and car park and for getting the country park back open to the public, once safe to do so.”
