LESS than three in five people were satisfied with the council’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, a new survey has revealed.

A questionnaire commissioned by Bracknell Forest Council asked residents for their thoughts on the authority’s work since lockdown and found 56 per cent of around 1,800 people surveyed said they were “satisfied” with its work to support the local community.

According to a council report, this is “broadly similar” to the Local Government Association’s national result.

Other key findings included:

  • 73 per cent of residents who contacted the council during the pandemic rated their service as good or excellent
  • Around a fifth of all residents contacted BFC at least once during the pandemic

  • More than four in five believe the pandemic had a positive impact on their appreciation of the local environment
  • One in five people volunteered to help the community during lockdown
  • 20 per cent said helping the local economy and businesses to recover should be one of BFC’s top priorities, while another 20 per cent said helping vulnerable people should be at the top of the council’s list
  • A quarter of residents said the pandemic had a negative impact on their mental health, whereas just over a third said it had a positive impact

A council report read: “These results highlight positive perceptions of the council during the pandemic and suggest that there is an increase in volunteering and community engagement.

“In terms of recovery, results highlight that residents want the council to support the local economy to recover, while supporting vulnerable people to recover, keeping residents safe and promoting and enforcing public health messages and guidelines.

The results of the survey will be used to inform the council’s decision making in the borough’s recovering from the pandemic.

BFC’s top team will discuss the findings at a meeting of the executive on Tuesday, October 20.
