A PLANNING application has been submitted for a new fast-food restaurant in Oswestry.

The plans have been submitted by fast-food giant McDonald's for the restaurant to be built on the Former Oswestry Smithfield Livestock Market, in Shrewsbury Road, next door to the recently constructed Morrisons supermarket.

McDonald's do not currently have a presence in the town, with the nearest restaurant 12 miles away in Chirk

The proposed new restaurant would included 45 parking spaces, as well as the drive-thru and seating inside.

Although the site is surrounded by commercial developments, the nearest housing development is just 50 metres away although plans have been included to mitigate any excessive noise.

Planners say the proposed development will provide more than 65 jobs for the community and the materials used on the building and throughout the scheme will ensure the site integrates easily with the surroundings.

One objection has already been lodged by a member of the public, but the plans will be heard by Shropshire Council at a later date.
