A NEW development boasting 63 houses and flats has been met with strong opposition by a local authority which branded the proposed scheme an “overdevelopment”.

Hughenden Parish Council has set itself against a series of new homes proposed on Clappins Lane, in Naphill citing poor local infrastructure among its reasons for objecting.

The applicant, Dandara Ltd, is seeking conditional permission from Buckinghamshire Council to build 63 two-storey properties offering a mix of one, two, three, and four-bedroom houses and flats, 30 of which will be affordable.

It also plans for between 143 and 156 parking spaces, ranging from individual bays and garages, to unallocated spaces on the street.

Dandara claims each house will have a single electric vehicle (EV) charging point, while one in ten unallocated spaces will offer the same.

Every house will also have a private garden, while flats will have a patio or balcony.

It is estimated the development would amount to approximately a five per cent increase in the number of homes in the village.

As part of the wider development, Dandara plans for a new junction onto Clappins Lane providing access to the site, and new footpaths which will result in the “unfortunate” loss of an existing oak tree.

A new public space and play area is also mentioned in council documents.

Planning approval is subject to public transport improvements, including upgrading local bus stops on Main Road. An archaeological study of the site and a financial contribution towards biodiversity off-setting is also recommended.

Bucks Free Press:

The development “would not have an adverse impact” on the Chilterns Beechwoods Special Area of Conservation, according to council documents, and the site is also allocated for residential use in the Wycombe District Local Plan.

“The Parish Council strongly objects to this application as 63 dwellings is an overdevelopment of the site,” said Hughenden Parish Council.

“There is a lack of infrastructure, narrow dangerous lanes, and inadequate drainage which is already over-stretched, and it is within an area where doctor’s surgeries are overcrowded.”

Conservative Cllrs Steve Broadbent and David Carroll called in the application for scrutiny.

The matter is due for debate during a West Buckinghamshire Area Planning Committee, on Tuesday, November 10.
