Campaigners fighting to save a 500-year-old village pub are gearing up for a fresh fight - as new plans are submitted to turn it into a house.

The Grade-II listed Swan pub in Ley Hill - which is believed to be one of the oldest in Bucks - is under threat from development and has been since 2018, with two previous planning applications thrown out.

But the latest plans could see the quaint pub turned into one house with parking if they are given the go-ahead.

The current owners say the pub is no longer viable and agents say turning it into a house would just be "returning the building to its original function".

In 2018, plans to try and turn the Blackwell Hall Lane pub into a children’s nursery sparked fury from residents, walkers and cyclists who frequently visited the important community space.

There was also a backlash when later plans tried to convert the pub into two houses - and the proposals were withdrawn.

Now the Save our Swan (SOS) group is gearing up to fight once again.

The group is currently trying to raise cash to buy the freehold of the pub from the owners.

Objecting to the latest house plans, SOS said: "This community facility, that is a pub, would be lost forever and locals and the public would no longer have access to this historic building.

"The pub has previously been a successful thriving business and it is very clear from the numerous objections that people feel that with a change of ownership, The Swan would once again become a pub for locals and visitors, a crucial community facility where local people can meet and socialise."

SOS also outlined its plans for the pub if they can secure enough cash to buy it - including quality food, real ales, coffee, teas and cakes as well as essential supplies, postage stamps and a parcel drop-off and collect service.

Currently, more than 100 people have pledged funds to SOS to help them buy the pub and in an update to the Bucks Free Press, hopes to soon "make a fair and reasonable offer to the current owners of The Swan".

SOS is also exploring other funding options, like business loans and grants.
