Wycombe fans finally returned to Adams Park last night in the home defeat against Stoke City.

Only six clubs in the EFL were in a position to admit fans, and none could allow in more than 2,000, but the joy and relief within the game was obvious.

1,000 Wycombe supporters finally got to watch Gareth Ainsworth's side in the Championship, having last been allowed into the ground prior to the Coronavirus pandemic.

"I am absolutely delighted," said Chairboys fan Harvey, 79, before the game against Stoke.

"It's not a great night for it, but we won't let that spoil anything.

"It's the first time since March. The first thing I noticed was the new floodlights. They're much better! They needed them after getting into the Championship."

Many aspects of the experience were not familiar.

Fans had to wear masks and maintain social distancing, there were temperature checks and hand-sanitising stations on arrival and one-way systems in operation.

Many fans took to social media after the match to express their thanks for the clubs hard work that has made the return for supporters possible.

Andy Kettlewell wrote: "Well done for all the hard work getting the fans back in the ground tonight.

"Superb effort by all and great to see some familiar faces again!

"Great to finally see my team live in the Championship! Onto the next one"

Adam Clift tweeted: "Thought the night ran smoothly and look forward to 2000 being there next Saturday.

"Massive hats off to @petecouhig and all at @wwfcofficial for all the hard work in making tonight possible!"
