A man remains in hospital following an explosion in Stone.

In the afternoon of Monday, January 11, police officers, ambulances, and several fire engines from across Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire attended a bungalow on Bishopstone Road, following reports of an ‘isolated incident’ in the village near Aylesbury.

Firefighters from Amersham, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Thame, and Wheatley Fire Stations used two hose reels, six sets of breathing apparatus, and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the blaze.

Following the explosion, a man was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries where he currently remains, whilst a woman was assessed by South Central Ambulance Service for suffering the effects of breathing in smoke.

A resident who lives near the house said: “I live a few doors down and I didn’t hear an explosion, but I heard and saw sirens before realising what had happened.”

One of the occupants of the house also confirmed that ‘he wasn’t there’ at the time of the incident, but after receiving a phone call explaining the situation, ‘he got home as soon as possible.’

He also revealed that the man was the only one hurt in the explosion.

One of the neighbouring houses also was damaged following the incident, and an investigation is currently taking place.
