A vet and dog daycare could come to Amersham at the site of a former Aston Martin car showroom.

Plans have been submitted to change the use of 44 Woodside Road to a veterinary practice and dog daycare facility.

Pets Corner UK wants to convert the rear of the premises, which was previously used as a vehicle servicing area in connection with the Stratstone Aston Martin showroom.

The firm says the proposed development will “complement” the new Pets Corner store to the front of the site, which was given the green light in 2020.

Pets Corner wants to convert the existing floorspace and add a “small extension” along the western elevation of the site, and says the development will create six full-time and five part-time jobs “with the potential that this may increase further in the future”.

The plans also include 10 car parking spaces, of which three will be for staff members.

The company said in its design and access statement that, in contrast to the retail premises, “the number of vehicle movements will be markedly less…due to the nature of the respective uses.

It added: “Customers will be attending veterinary appointments and dropping off their dogs to the dog daycare facility at regular intervals during the course of the day, which will reduce the risk of peak vehicle movements.”

The firm also noted the location is situated within 100m of the council-owned car park at Chiltern Pools Leisure Centre, which is adjacent to a number of bus stops.

There is also currently “no intention” for an outside exercise area in connection with the dog daycare facility, which Pets Corner says should not have any “adverse impact” for nearby residents.

So far, one objection has been submitted, with the resident writing: I object to the development on the grounds that we would suffer from the noise and smell of the development.

“We would also lose privacy due to the trees joining our property being removed in the development.”

And another resident submitted a neutral statement, saying he wanted to know more about a proposed acoustic fence, and whether it will be solid or open mesh.

He wrote: “We would like a solid fence for privacy reasons, as this backs directly onto our garden.”

The design and access statement concluded: “The proposed development will support the economic growth and productivity of Amersham through developing a long-standing employment site which is currently vacant.

“It will provide the conditions to support the continued business use of the site through both optimising and enhancing the existing premises.

“These improvements will secure the long-term future of the site as an employment location, providing valuable employment opportunities for the local community.”
