Residents in a quiet Bucks village have been scammed into ‘handing over large sums of money’ to fake police officers according to Thames Valley Police.

Between January 17 and January 20, TVP were alerted of the con by those who live in Newton Longville near Milton Keynes, after several members of the public were purporting to be police officers.

It has not been reported on how many people have been tricked into the scam, and the amount of money that has been stolen has not been revealed.

In a statement that was published on Thames Valley Police Aylesbury Vale’s Facebook page, they said: “We have had two reports over the last three days of persons purporting to be police officers calling members of the public in the Newton Longville area.

“The members of the public are then duped into believing what the 'fake' police officer is telling them, and they have ended up handing over large sums of money.

“During the interaction, the offenders often allow the victims to call what they believe is the police control room to confirm their identity.

“However, the call has not properly disconnected, and the victim remains to talk to either the offender or another accomplice.

“Unfortunately, this is not the first time that this has happened and similar reports are regularly made across the country where the offenders often target elderly and vulnerable members of the community.

“Please remember that Police officers and staff will never ask you to hand over cash or your bank cards.”

The police are urging the public to contact the police if they have been victims of this crime, or if they have any information.
