Great Missenden shortlisted in Britain’s Favourite Walks on ITV

And luckily for keen walkers, one Buckinghamshire village was named one of the best places to walk by on 'ITV’s ‘Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100’, a two-and-a-half-hour special presented by Julia Bradbury and Ore Oduba.

The show that was first broadcast in 2018 featured some notorious routes including the Lake District and Ben Nevis - but none other than Great Missenden found itself on the list.

The most famous walk inspired by the acclaimed writer, ‘The Roald Dahl Village Trail’ is the best way to look around the village whilst exploring the writer's life.

The trail visits Dahl's grave and goes past memorable places that inspired the writer such as Sophie’s 'norphanage' in The BFG or the library visited by Matilda while her mum went off to Aylesbury to play bingo.

If walking in the countryside is more up your street, a venture up to the top of Coombe Hill will give you a fantastic view across the surrounding areas.

At the top of the hill, you can see the Prime Minister’s country retreat at Chequers, the pretty village of Ellesborough and Aylesbury Vale’s rare chalk grassland.
