The big hitters came off the bench for Spurs as the North London outfit won the game in the dying embers.

An excellent Harry Winks effort and a late brace from Tanguy Ndombele was enough for Jose Mourinho’s side to cement their name in the hat for the next round.

Ainsworth said: “The moods been absolutely fine.

“We know we more than matched a really good team.

“Obviously they put their superstars on and we were tired, we only trained one day in eight.

“These are all positive for us to say we have got enough to compete.

“I think the boys should be proud of their efforts after the disruption we had the previous week.

“If it was going to happen, it is was going to happen late on because we probably weren’t up to the condition we are used to because of the Covid situation.

“It was a real proud moment.

“And real respect by Tottenham to put the superstars on."

After the final whistle, Mourinho let Ainsworth know how tough his team is to face and wished the Chairboys luck with their relegation battle.

“Jose Mourinho said he knew it would be very tough and wished us good luck with everything.

“He told us we’ve got a good team so I’m really pleased with that”
