In their online campaign concerned residents argue the speed limit along the “treacherous” highway should be reduced from 60mph to 40mph.

They claim the area around Gore Hill past Coleshill is especially fraught, particularly for walkers and people leaving or emerging onto the road.

Several people have been killed along this route throughout the years.

Daniel Horton from Marlow and Aaron Savin, a model and actor who worked in Amersham, both died at the scene when their car collided with another on the A355 Whippas Hill back in November 2014. The pair were childhood friends.

Benjamin Morbey, from Ilford, in Essex, died after his car struck a tree on the A355 northbound between Farnham Royal and Beaconsfield, in January 2015.

In September of that year, 29-year-old Alison Kelly, who was living and working near Amersham, died in a three-car smash near Coleshill. She was originally from Hampshire.

“Ally was a loving, caring young lady who lived for her horses and dogs,” her family said.

Little over a month later in October 2015, Farnborough man Hugh Pirrie was killed at the scene when his car struck an oncoming vehicle near Coleshill.

Farnborough Rugby Club paid tribute to the 65-year-old who had been a member since the early 1970s.

Then in August 2016 a motorcyclist was killed following a crash with other riders near the Tower Road junction at Coleshill. The unknown rider died in hospital.

“We the undersigned petition the council to reduce the speed limit of the A355 from the national speed limit to 40mph along its length,” wrote the campaigners online.

“This is a very busy and fast road. In particular past Coleshill there are numerous footpath crossings, entry and exits from driveways, car parks for the pub and hatchery shop, as well as turnings for the village.

“Crossing on foot feels very treacherous, especially with small children.

“There have been several fatalities on this road and more could be prevented if the limit was reduced to 40mph.”

“If the road speed was consistent along its length, this would also help to reduce the congestion at each approach to Amersham and Beaconsfield.”

The petition closes on February 9.
