A PLANNING application which residents believed “would be withdrawn" by their neighbour will go before the council for scrutiny.

Mr Robert McKenary seeks conditional permission for a single-storey rear extension to his detached property on Nairdwood Close, in Prestwood, Great Missenden – plus alterations to a garage roof and “oddly proportioned” car port.

The extension would feature a flat roof, as would the attached car port, and the latter would also have a sliding door. The roof over the garage will be elevated.

The existing car port would in effect be replaced to create a third garage, the council said.

Rooflights are also mentioned in the application.

Three neighbours said Mr McKenary “informed them that the application would be withdrawn” and ‘as such will not detail their objections’, according to council documents.

“Whilst the council cannot control what the applicant tells their neighbours, obviously the application has not been withdrawn,” a council officer said.

Cllr John Gladwin called in the application for committee scrutiny. “I have concerns with regard to the impact on the street scene with the creation of a third garage, bearing in mind that the property is in the Chilterns AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty),” he said.

However, council officers say the proposal “would integrate satisfactorily and would not adversely affect the character and appearance of the street scene”.

Adding: “A third garage to replace the car port would have no impact on the wider natural landscape and character of the AONB.”

The matter is due for debate during an East Buckinghamshire Area Planning Committee, on Tuesday, February 9.
