Covid and multiple lockdowns have put an end to that pint (or three) at the pub – so we’ve dug into our archives to take a look back at the lost pubs of the Chilterns.
Website www.closedpubs.co.uk has been logging the closures of watering holes in Amersham, Chesham, The Chalfonts and Great Missenden, as well as surrounding villages, over the years, and we’ve included all of these in our round-up below.

- Black Horse, Woodside Road
- Griffin, The Broadway
- Hare & Hounds, Whielden Street
- Iron Horse, Station Square. Closed in 2004. It was demolished to make way for flats and a cafe.
- Nags Head, 3 Whielden Street. Closed in 2006. A Zaza restaurant stands in its place
- Pheasant, 35 Plantation Road. Closed in 2013
- Red Lion, High Street
- Red Lion, 69 Chestnut Lane. Closed in 2012
- Wheatsheaf Inn , London Road. A Weller Brewery pub acquired in 1842. Closed in 1937, demolished in 1945
- White Hart, High Street. A coaching inn, closed in the 1700s

- Chequers, Market Square. Now offices
- Cock Tavern, 96 High Street. Closed in 2010
