A “LIVING nightmare” is how one resident described the road they live on ravaged by heavy goods vehicles – and rain.

Hollybush Lane in Denham has become so chewed up by high numbers of HGVs hurtling along it, the potholes and loose stones are causing damage to residents’ vehicles, one person said.

RESIDENT: 'We are constantly complaining to the council'

They said wagons that go whizzing past chip up bits of road at people’s cars.

They claim to have questioned Buckinghamshire Council “constantly” about why such numbers of HGVs are permitted to use a residential road, adding they fear for the life of their child.

Despite their complaints, they claim no action has been taken.

Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) added mud from the tyres of HGVs blocking “ditches” and recent heavy rain had also impacted road conditions.

“I live on Hollybush Lane in Denham,” the person said. “Our road has become a living nightmare with the number of lorries that drive through at all sorts of speeds and at all times of the day. We are constantly complaining to the council, but nothing has been done.

“My road is a residential road, so I do not see why these lorries are allowed to access this road. The road is constantly damaged and in turn damages our cars. I have cracked my alloy wheel and popped three tyres due to the roads. While my car is parked the lorries have chipped my windscreen and is continuously damaging our vehicles.”

They added: “We never let our son out of our sight when we are walking down the road due the excessive speeds these lorries come at.”

TfB: 'The problems can be attributed to the high level of HGVs'

A spokesman for TfB said: “TfB is aware of the issues on Hollybush Lane. The problems can be attributed to the high level of HGVs using the road, causing constant, heavy impact and the high rainfall we have been experiencing in the last few months.

“Mud coming off the tyres of the HGVs has been blocking the ditches, which we have cleared three times in the last two years. However, due to the level of damage caused we have now needed to close part of Hollybush Lane to traffic.

“An order to repair has been raised, and an extensive ditching program has been added to future works. Hollybush Lane is also on the list for extensive plane and patch treatment.”
