The Bucks Free Press launched its mobile site 12 years ago.

Readers could keep up to date with the latest news while on the go when the site launched across mobile devices on February 18, 2009.

The latest news, sport and traffic reports was available, with the old site also showing options for national news and sport, in readers’ pockets.

All they had to do was text the words BFP MOBILE to 80360 or visit mobile.bucksfreepress.co.uk.

Of course, it looks much better today with the advent of smartphones, but it was the first time the BFP had launched anything like it at the time - and it was easier to navigate on the small screen than regular websites.

It was also touted to be much faster as it used smaller images to keep bandwidth as low as possible.

Since then, the site has gone from strength to strength, with readers now able to subscribe for £2 for two months (£4.99 a month thereafter) or £52 a year – that’s a pound a week – for unlimited access to the site and archives, with up to 80 per cent less advertising.
