A PETITION to reduce the speed limit on a “dangerous” road has received several hundred signatures.

Campaigners are seeking to pressure Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) to bring down the current 40mph limit along the Penn Road (B474) in Beaconsfield.

More than 570 people have signed an e-petition to reduce it to 30mph.

“The current limit is being exceeded by far too many vehicles who put their foot down either coming towards the town from the Red Lion, or the opposite way coming out from the town towards Knotty Green,” campaigners said.

With local schools and “high pedestrian footfall”, petitioners are trying to make Penn Road safer for children and other road users, they said.

“Too dangerous for kids crossing,” someone commented.

They added: “Previous efforts to engage with TfB have failed due to a lack of support from the council.

“TfB take a rear-view approach and will only do something once the number of deaths or serious incidents on the road exceeds a certain threshold.

“So there have to be deaths or serious injuries take place before they do anything to prevent them happening again.”

They also added: “We need as many signatures as possible to demonstrate support for the speed reduction to 30mph and potential use of speed bumps or cameras,” they added.

Transport for Buckinghamshire was approached for comment.
