Children from a Chalfont St Peter nursery sent messages of love to care home residents last week.

The youngsters, from Buttercups Nursery in Chalfont Park, created a backdrop for a Valentine’s concert to cheer up residents at Chalfont Lodge Care Centre, in Denham Lane.

A spokesman for the Barchester Healthcare home, Emmie Payne, said the two groups have formed a “special bond” over the years, with the children visiting the home to treat residents to informal nursery rhyme concerts.

She added: “These shared activities brought joy to young and old alike. But with lockdown, making these visits impossible, the sense of isolation grew.”

But Barchester’s music therapist, Louise Hamer, came to the rescue with an afternoon musical recital.

She often provides one-to-one and group music sessions for the residents with singing and playing instruments.

Ms Hamer contacted the nursery to see if the children would like to create some artwork to cheer up the residents, adding they were “delighted with this idea and set to work to create a beautiful backdrop for the concert”.

One of the messages read: “We are thinking of you, lots of love, the pre-school children at Buttercups Chalfont Park Day Nursery.”

Ms Hamer added: “The result was a lovely afternoon, and a reminder that we are not alone.”
