A charity staffed entirely by volunteers, it currently has around 50 operational members, all highly trained in search techniques, navigation, and first aid.

This helps form drone teams, first aid responders boat teams, and bike teams.

Earlier this year BSAR assisted Marlow residents with flooding incidents as the River Thames overflowed with a specialised team deployed at Longridge activity centre.

The new base is designed to enhance their efficiency and ability to provide vital search and rescue and resilience services.

Mags Kelly, BSAR’s Chair, paid tribute to those members of the community who had donated goods and to the BSAR volunteers who had carried out all the work, at almost no cost to the charity.

She said “It has been a challenging year for everyone but I feel that BSAR more than met that challenge whether providing search and rescue capability, assisting with PPE manufacture and deliveries, helping with Covid vaccinations, or flood response.

“Improving our HQ is one step in a programme of other improvements we have planned to better serve our local community”
