A man in his 40s has died in a horror crash that closed off part of the M40.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway after a blue Volvo XC40 and a Suzuki GSXR1000 motorbike were involved in a crash at junction 1A, at around 5.40pm yesterday (Wednesday).

Sadly, the rider of the motorcycle, a man in his 40s from Banbury, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was uninjured, police said.

The M40 was closed for several hours after the crash, with drivers asked to find alternative routes.

Investigating officer PC Kate Bishop of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Sadly a man has died following this collision and our thoughts remain with his family.

“We are investigating this collision and would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it, and also would ask anyone with a dash camera to check their footage to see if it shows this collision or either vehicle driving on the M40 prior to the collision.

“We are also interested in speaking with the driver of an Audi that was directly behind the collision when it occurred.”
