The mother of murdered student Libby Squire, from High Wycombe, has offered strong advice amid Sarah Everard’s murder investigation.

Lisa Squire responded to a tweet in a thread started by Hamilton actor Jay Perry, in which a user asked how he could help women get home safely.

He said: “Can I ask, is there a way to make sure you get home safely and without making you feel uncomfortable?

“Especially after what happened to Libby Squire, just for my own peace of mind to know you are in a safe place.”

Mrs Squire said: “As Libby’s mum can I ask that if ever you see a lone female who is obviously vulnerable offer to wait with her.

“Offer to call someone for her. Offer help. If she refuses help (and likely she will due to fear) call the police. The police WILL respond.”

In response, Adam Hulbert, who asked the question, replied: “Absolutely I'd bear that in mind. I'm really sorry for your loss, and that none of the many people that could didn't do anything.

“I've seen interviews and how you've spoken up against victim blaming. It's really commendable to see. RIP Libby.”

Mrs Squire thanked Mr Hulbert, adding: “I wish Libby had met someone like you that night.”

In his tweet, Jay Perry asked: “Hi ladies, I am super conscious as a man when walking behind lone women at night, often I cross the street to alleviate as much anxiety as possible.

“What other advice can you offer to me to be a better ally in this situation?!”

It comes after police confirmed human remains found in woodland in Kent are those of Sarah Everard in a heartbreaking development, just over a week after she disappeared on March 3 as she was walking home from a friend’s house in south London.

Mrs Squire also responded to another Twitter user who slammed those saying Ms Everard should not have walked home alone at night.

Louise Woodward Styles tweeted on March 10: “Those crowing that #SarahEverard shouldn’t have walked home alone are the same who said Libby Squire shouldn't have been walking home drunk, and even proportioned blame on her friends instead of the evil rapist murdering MAN who took her life.

“Women are running out of safe places.”

Mrs Squire responded: “Couldn’t agree with you more. When will the world stop blaming women for being attacked, raped or killed.

“Sad world we live in where a woman can’t walk alone in the dark without fear #LibbySquire #SarahEverard.”

A serving Met Police officer remains in custody having been held on suspicion of Ms Everard's kidnap and murder.
