A "dreadful" lorry parking situation is making residents lives a "living misery", a councillor has claimed - as a petition to deal with the problem is handed over.

Residents living on Warrendene Road in the Hughenden Valley say HGVs are using the road as a waiting bay to get into a nearby landscaping business site, Country Supplies.

Cllr David Carroll, who supported his residents' petition, said their lives are being made a "misery" by the lorries, which have reportedly even turned up at 6am some days.

Describing the issue, Cllr Carroll told his colleagues on the North West Chilterns Community Board on Wednesday: "Residents have an ongoing problem with HGVs parking and basically using it as a waiting bay, which I don’t think is very good at all.

"One time in particular, you can have 10 lorries parking there and they could potentially even turn up at 6am in the morning, or so I was told the other day, with their engines going.

"There are many issues with this – safety, pollution, traffic and of course it is stressful and really making my residents’ lives a misery.

"It’s a tough time to get anyone to sign a petition during this time, and I do say there would be many more to sign this petition, I have no doubt about that. I do feel this affects the whole of the Hughenden Valley, because of where we are at the moment."

Cllr Clive Harriss backed up the concerns, adding: "Now the school run has started again, it is something that has become very apparent.

"On Monday, Country Supplies had, I think, five or six lorries supplying them so they parked nose to tail.

"On Tuesday, they had five of their own vehicles waiting to turn up for work and they park with a gap in between them a lorry’s length so at least you can wind your way through.

"This is the problem. My wife noticed it this morning and if she notices it, and I notice it, it must be a problem. If we can resolve this for residents, it would be greatly appreciated."

Cllr Gary Hall added that the situation is "really, really dreadful".

Jackie Binning, the community board co-ordinator said they were fully aware of the issue and added there would be conversations with the company to "see if we can agree some solutions that will help the residents".

She added: "We know the urgency, we totally understand, and this is where we need to start."

Cllr Carroll urged them to come up with a solution. He said: "This is a long-running scenario where plenty of people have been talking about it and many before me haven’t come up with a solution.

"This is urgent. I know for a fact it is making people’s lives a misery in the area. I have no problem with having a conversation, but there needs to be a solution."

Country Supplies has been approached for comment.
