“YEARS of negligence” by the council has resulted in crumbling kerbs and cracked pavements leaving certain people feeling unsafe walking in a Bucks neighbourhood, it has been claimed.

Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) has come under fire from Cllr Ashley Morgan who highlighted several areas of Elmhurst in Aylesbury which he claims have become unsafe for pedestrians due to ‘underinvestment’.

The Aylesbury town councillor reported damages to Ruskin Way, Hilton Avenue and Cannock Road via FixMyStreet, and asked when will the council “start investing money to repair our damaged roads and pavements?”.

He said he was ‘saddened’ elderly and disabled residents do not feel safe walking these areas.

Cllr Morgan also said he thought a van or lorry had ‘churned up’ Cannock Road.

“The Conservative led Buckinghamshire Council promised the residents that changing to a unitary council would save money and they would be able to invest more money into our infrastructure,” said the Liberal Democrat.

“But a year on and we still have the same budget for pavements for 2021/22. When are they going to start investing money to repair our damaged roads and pavements?

“Years of negligence means we have elderly and disabled residents in Elmhurst who do not feel safe out walking, which saddens me as Aylesbury is the home of the Paralympics.

“We urge residents to use their vote wisely on May 6.”

A spokesman for Transport for Buckinghamshire said: “TfB is aware of the damage caused at these locations and has sent officers to inspect the areas and make them safe.

“In the meantime, if any of your readers have evidence of the vehicle involved on Cannock Road, we would be pleased to hear from them, and request that any defects on the highways are reported via FixMyStreet (buckscc.gov.uk).”
