Two new tenants at the revamped Ottakar's book shop in High Wycombe town centre have been revealed.

It was announced in January that an Italian restaurant and gelateria would be opening in the former Ottakar’s book store in White Hart Street, which has been overhauled by Buckinghamshire Council.

Now, the businesses moving into the building, which has a restaurant on the ground floor and offices above, can finally be revealed.

The new ground floor Italian restaurant will be called Roberto's, run by a local entrepreneur called Robert Kelly.

It is set to open up for outside dining on April 12 in line with the government's Covid-19 guidance, and inside dining on May 17.

Meanwhile, the first floor design studio offices were let within a week of being marketed to a gentlemen's online styling and concierge shopping service.

TheChapar.com is headed up by another local man, CEO Edward Janes, and they already have offices and a warehouse in Nottingham.

A Buckinghamshire Council spokesman added: "The council’s refurbishment of the former Ottakers building in White Hart Street has immediately attracted two tenants, bringing this longstanding vacant building back into use."

The former Ottakar’s book store was in a poor state after years of neglect by an offshore absentee landlord and was described as an "eyesore" by Wycombe councillors.

When it finally went up for sale in 2019 the then Wycombe District Council moved quickly to buy it in a bid to revamp it.

Renovation work over the nine months up to December 2020 included completely replacing the original glazed external façades and flat roof and installing a new shopfront set back from the pavement to create a covered seating area, plus a perforated bronze coloured sun screen with leaf pattern design.
