A Bucks walking route has been named one of the best in Britain.

The walk, from Wendover to Great Missenden, has come out as one of the country's favourite routes in the south east of England in a list complied by ITV show Britain’s Favourite Walks, hosted by Julia Bradbury.

In a two-and-a-half TV special, Ms Bradbury and Ore Oduba pulled on their hiking boots and guided viewers through a countdown of the country’s favourite walks for the ultimate guide to Britain’s beautiful outdoors.

The top 100 were voted for by more than 8,000 walking enthusiasts in what is believed to be one of the largest surveys ever conducted.

The linear walk in Bucks starts at Wendover Railway Station and rises to Coombe Hill, with views of Aylesbury Vale and the Prime Minister’s country retreat Chequers, before taking a level route through woods with areas of bluebells and descending into Great Missenden – the home of legendary children’s author Roald Dahl.

Website ramblers.org.uk describes the walk as a “real treat in springtime” when the bluebells are out, while GetOutside, a website founded by Ordnance Survey to help more people get outdoors, recommends taking the village trail before heading to Angling Spring wood, where Mr Dahl himself is believed to have walked for inspiration.
