A NEW coach turning area to enable the safe transportation of schoolchildren has been approved.

Bucks Council voted to permit a new coach turning circle at Buryfield car park in Great Missenden during a planning meeting on April 6.

Cllr Nick Rose described the decision as a “no-brainer”.

It is understood the new turning circle will help the transport of pupils attending Great Missenden Church of England Combined School, and be “in the corner of the school playing field”.

It is in response to currently “unsatisfactory provision” for coach turning in the adjacent Great Missenden Parish Council car park.

Presently, coaches can only go forward or in reverse to the drop-off point in front of the school gates.

“This creates a danger to schoolchildren walking through the car park on their way to and from the school, as coaches have to reverse in their presence,” a council officer wrote.

The new turning circle will be accessed via the Link Road car park.

New hedging, fencing, small lamp columns and bollards are also planned.

Parking spaces in the parish council car park will also be “reconfigured”, according to a report.

“My own view is that it would seem to be pretty much a no-brainer,” said Cllr Rose. “Let’s just go with it, I can’t really see a problem.”

He then proposed a motion to approve, seconded by Cllr Jane MacBean.

Members voted unanimously to defer to grant conditional permission, subject to a consultation period.
