A remote hostel that is set to be abandoned by families when new temporary accommodation opens in the centre of High Wycombe will be "reviewed" by the council.

Saunderton Lodge is more than 90 years old but has, for many years, been used to house the most vulnerable families and individuals in the community who desperately needed a place to stay.

The ageing building, which has 34 rooms, is quickly coming to the end of its life, so Buckinghamshire Council is opening up a replacement hostel on the site of the Desborough Road car park.

This has thrown up questions about what might happen to the isolated Saunderton Lodge, which is off the busy A4010 between West Wycombe and Princes Risborough.

Buckinghamshire Council says the future of Saunderton Lodge, which they own, will be reviewed once the new replacement temporary accommodation in the town is fully open.

The modular building, which will have 58 rooms, is currently in the process of being built.

A spokesman told the Bucks Free Press: "Our brand new temporary accommodation unit in Desbrorough Road, High Wycombe is due to open later this year (early autumn), after which time we will undertake a review of Saunderton Lodge."
