Residents at a care home in Aylesbury have been fundraising for their local Florence Nightingale Hospice in the town, by virtually cycling around the globe.

The participants, who are currently at the Avondale Care Home in the town, took on the challenge in March, with the home hoping to raise £2,740 which will go towards the hospice’s crisis appeal, and the residents chose to do this by cycling 31 miles for the 31 days of March.

Five of Avondale’s residents, one of whom is 99 years old, have been cycling one mile each day through virtual destinations using their Technogym arm cycling machine.

Despite the residents not achieving their target in the time that they have set, they will accumulated £1,906 for the hospice, and will continue to take donations to help reach their goal.

By the end of March, they will have cycled a combined total of 30 miles with home manager, Shaun Canavan, completing the remaining one mile.

Home manager, Shaun Canavan, who will be completing the last mile, said: “I am so impressed by the generosity and determination of my residents who have undertaken this challenge with so much enthusiasm.
