Wycombe Wanderers’ fight to stay in the Championship was severely dented after they blew a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

Two goals within the first five minutes of the second-half from Admiral Muskwe and Garath McCleary, looked like they had given Wycombe their ninth league win of the season, and their first at the Liberty since 2006.

However, two quick goals from a Jamal Lowe penalty and a Liam Cullen header rescued Steve Cooper’s men a point.

In a tense first-half, Swansea were dealt a serious blow after just seven minutes when Andre Ayew came off injured.

However, despite the early change, Swansea bossed possession in the early stages as Wycombe allowed the Welsh outfit to have the ball.

This allowed the ex-Premier League outfit to knock the ball in and around the Wanderers penalty area without actually being threatened.

However, the patient build-up play led Swansea to test the Chairboys’ goal in quick succession.

The first big chance of the contest came on 13 minutes, when Connor Roberts latched onto the ball from a mistake by Joe Jacobson, but David Stockdale made himself make to deny the Welsh right-back.

Moments later, Swansea had another effort to go 1-0 up but Conor Hourihane, who is on loan at the club from Aston Villa, fired wide from 18-yards.

After a wobbly 15 minutes or so, Wycombe got into the match and had a huge penalty claim waved away.

In what was their first attack on 19 minutes, Admiral Muskwe cut inside on his left foot to shoot seven-yards away from goal.

However, his effort was blocked by one of the Swansea players, with Wycombe suggesting that the ball had hit an arm.

Huge appeals from the Wanderers players and bench followed, but no spot-kick was given.

A flurry of half-chances followed for Wanderers as it remained goalless at the break.

The start of the second though was a completely different story.

Twenty-five seconds after the restart, Muskwe fired in a beautiful half-volley past Woodman, to put Wycombe 1-0 up.

It was his third goal of the season – all of them have come away from home.

Gareth Ainsworth must have given his players numerous half-time oranges as not even a minute later, Ikpeazu’s looping header clipped the top of the bar.

Wycombe were now in the driving seat and it showed, as Garath McCleary made it 2-0 on 50 minutes.

The ex-Reading man, who hadn’t scored since the Boxing Day defeat away at Bristol City, just ran and ran at the Swansea defence, before he smashed in a low shot from 16-yards past Woodman.

It was his first goal in 18 matches and the Wycombe bench went crazy.

Swansea made a triple change straight after the second strike, as Jamal Lowe and Wayne Routledge had shots blocked on the line from Stockdale and Jack Grimmer.

However, the Chairboys surrendered their two-goal lead in the space of three minutes.

Out of nowhere on 79 minutes, Jason McCarthy slipped over and handles the ball in the box.

Up stepped Jamal Lowe to fire in the spot-kick high into the goal to give Swansea hope.

Three minutes later, a delicious ball was whipped in and substitute Liam Cullen headed in past Stockdale from three-yards.

It was a crushing blow, and even though Swansea continued to attack, Wycombe thought they had won the match just before 90 minutes, but Admiral Muskwe fired wide from close range.

The result means the Chairboys stay bottom but move onto 34 points – nine points from safety.

Up next is another River Severn side, as Bristol City travel to Adams Park on April 21.
