AN investigation into whether a two-bed flat was built ‘illegally’ in a Bucks garden has resulted in the structure being dismantled by order of the council.

Bucks Council said an investigation into a potential planning breach in the rear garden of a property on Spearing Road in High Wycombe had resulted in the person responsible being made to take down the structure – but that “no other enforcement action will be taken”.

The alarm was raised by a local person back in February.

At the time, a concerned resident alleged a two-bed property had been constructed without permission and had been rented out for four years.

They also alleged a shed had been constructed during the pandemic, above what they claimed was the flat itself.

While the council confirmed at the time that it was aware of the issue, it did not confirm what use the structure had, adding the pandemic had delayed the investigation.

“They have built an illegal two-bedroom flat in the back garden without planning permission,” a resident claimed at the time. “Plus, renting it out for four years.

“And during the pandemic they had workers come in and build a massive shed on top of the flat.”

They added: “The old tenants have now left, and they are trying to rent it out again.”

A Bucks Council spokesman said: “Buckinghamshire Council’s investigation resulted in the property owner dismantling the structure; no other enforcement action will be taken.”
