The couple, who met while studying at St Andrew’s University in Scotland, tied the knot on April 29, 2011, with millions around the world watching the televised wedding which took place at Westminster Abbey.

The country celebrated along with the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, with street parties being held around the UK, including in south Bucks.

Schools and nurseries across the area marked the special occasion with special events during the week, with several communities throwing street parties on the day and over the weekend.

Amersham’s Market Square and The Moor in Chesham were among the 28 street parties taking place across the area and were packed for a day of patriotic festivities.

Schools across the area got into the party spirit with the RAF also joining forces with Naphill and Walters Ash School for a grand celebration.

Group Capt Mark Heffron, station commander at RAF High Wycombe opened the lavish party at the Kilwood-based primary school, before joining the school orchestra in a rousing rendition of the national anthem.

Pupils also took part in a hat competition and maypole dancing.

In Bourne End, tots took a break from their Easter holiday to go back to their Abbots Brook Pre-School to decorate silhouettes of the royal couple.

Pupils at Cedar Park School in Hazlemere performed a spectacular piece of patriotic modern art by recreating a symbol of British society.

Children also decorated cakes, studied the royal family tree and held a Wedding Hat competition.

Meanwhile, Meadow School combined the royal wedding celebration with the 25th anniversary of one of their staff members.

Dinner lady Pat Saunders was honoured during a school assembly for her long service to the school.

And a keen baker from Princes Risborough was invited by Hello! magazine to make a wedding cake fit for royalty.

Yvonne David featured in the magazine after giving the cake a modern twist by setting the four tiers at an angle.

At the time, the 44-year-old donated the cake to Centrepoint, a charity for the homeless of which Prince William is patron.
