Beaconsfield MP Joy Morrissey writes exclusively to Bucks Free Press readers:

Throughout this past month I have frequently commented on my pride and admiration for the many businesses which have managed to stay afloat during this awful lockdown and have reopened safely with gusto and enthusiasm.

Much of this is of course down to the incredible resilience of our local businesses, and also their ability to adapt to changing regulations and circumstances.

But I also want to take the opportunity to pay tribute to our fantastic team of councillors and officials working hard at Buckinghamshire Council. Where other local authorities have been slow to roll out government financial support, or have offered minimal support and advice to local businesses, Buckinghamshire Council have done all they can to direct businesses to the appropriate support and are one of the few local authorities to have spent their entire allocation of government support money.

This is all because we have a proactive council which listens to business and responds accordingly.

I think the pandemic has reaffirmed how vital local business is to the lifeblood of our communities.

And so, to maintain our vibrant economy a council that understands business is absolutely crucial.

From the many business owners and shopkeepers, I have spoken over the past few months this has become increasingly clear.

So as always, I will continue to stand up for businesses as will your local councillors representing you local interests and values.

But businesses still need your help. So please continue to support your local high street and local pubs and restaurants.

The data shows that the latest round of reopening has not caused a spike in new cases or hospitalisations, suggesting that all your favourite spots are safe and Covid-secure.

So get out there and support your high street safely.
