Gareth Ainsworth has heavily praised his opposite number, Neil Warnock, ahead of Wycombe’s trip to Middlesbrough.

The 72-year-old took over Middlesbrough in June 2020 after Jonathan Woodgate was sacked and steered the club to Championship safety before agreeing to stay on this season.

This season Middlesbrough have just fallen short of the top six they were after a string of disappointing results.

However, Gareth Ainsworth knows his players will have to perform at their best to get anything from a side managed by Warnock.

He said: said: "Neil Warnock's style of play is awesome.

“He gets his teams organised, works their socks off and plays some real good football in winning games.

“I think he is a great manager, I’ve got a huge amount of respect for him in what he has achieved in the game.

“I’ve watched his teams, they work so hard and if anyone wants to criticise him they are so wrong, he gets teams winning.

"It's going to be such a tough game this one, the toughest of the run we have been on without a doubt because they all will be fighting for him.”

“He’s a top guy, he had some real nice things to say about us when he came to Adams Park and I return that compliment.”

“Their work ethic is second the none, they have some quality players, this will be a super tough game.”

Wycombe travel to the Riverside needing a remarkable string of results in order for them to avoid relegation from the Championship.
