A Crowdfunding page has been set up to save the future of a popular cricket club.

Chesham Cricket Club, which was reportedly established in 1848, need around £40,000 to survive following the strains of the three lockdowns that hit the country last March.

A loss of income has put the club in a dire financial situation, with CCC revealing that they need ‘£30,000 to keep the club running and to recover from being closed during the pandemic.’

Anyone can donate to help the club

At the moment, an incredible £21, 626 has been donated, but with the aim of £40k, the club will be able to use this money to not only keep the club alive, but they will use the funds for equipment repairs, ground maintenance and making the area Covid secure.

Speaking on the importance of future-proofing the club financially, chairman, Jonathan Royals, said: “Last year was a huge challenge, but thanks to some wonderful volunteers, we were able to play a shorter season of cricket, but overall there has been a reduction in our income of £30,000, plus other losses.

“We rely on this income to maintain the grounds, the clubhouse and the facilities for the community to use.

“Otherwise the club will not be able to function.

“We are now in a position where we must ask for our local community to lend a hand if they can, as this year we hope to be welcoming even more members of the community to get active and socialise.

“We want to make sure that our club is here for many years to come”.

The club have also revealed a breakdown of what the money will be used for if they reach their target.

The money will be used for the following:

• £10,000 for essential groundworks and maintenance including fencing, outfield renovations, and landscaping

• £10,000 for new benches, soft furnishings, and kitchen updates

• Stretch target: £10,000 for the storage sheds and outdoor refreshment area

An excerpt from the Crowdfunding page reads: “We want to get as many people in Chesham and the surrounding area involved in sport and activity.

“Help us achieve that and allow more people to benefit from being part of a club community and all the support that comes with it.”
