OXFORD United fans with the hottest tickets in town are gearing up for this evening’s crunch game.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, only 4,000 people will be allowed inside the Kassam Stadium, with that figure including players, staff and stewards.
The club set up an unweighted one-off ballot for season ticket holders, with that selling out.
It will be the first time fans have been allowed in the Kassam since December.
Matt Green, who will be making the trip from Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, said: “It’s going to be massive, it’s an absolute privilege to go to a live game at the moment.
“I’m excited and nervous, and I think the game will be quite cagey.
“The fact we didn’t beat Blackpool this season doesn’t bother me, it means the players know they’ll have to be at the top of their game.
“I’m looking forward to catching up with and seeing some of my friends as well.”
Dan Webb, 31, has been attending United matches since he was four-years-old.
He said: “I was lucky enough to get a ticket for Hull and then when restrictions hit again, you start to think ‘will I ever see my club in this stadium again?’.
“It’s been a difficult time for fans watching on screens, it’s not the same as going with your mates but these are the circumstances and you have to accept them.
“Having fans for the first leg is massive and I think we’ll edge it by two clear goals.”
Season ticket holder of 10 years, Andy Taylor, said: “I managed to see the two previous games so I was pretty confident in getting a ticket but even so, when I saw I had one, it was a great feeling.
“I’m buzzing to be going back to the ground, it’ll be a nerve-racking game but I think the boys can do it.
“If we can get through this tie, I think we can go all the way and put last season behind us.”
Harry Burton said: “When you’re losing to Tonbridge Angels, Histon and Droylsden, the Football League is a pipe dream, let alone the Championship.
“Yet after this crazy season, we might find ourselves there in August.”
David Morris added: “Having supported Oxford since the early sixties and seen the highs and the very low lows, in these situations my nails go and stomach churns.”
