Residents living on a road where at least two people have died in the last five years have slammed it as "dangerous".

On Thursday night, a male pedestrian, aged 56, was killed on Hughenden Avenue in High Wycombe when he was hit by a driver who did not stop at the scene.

The car involved is believed to be a Vauxhall Astra type vehicle but no one has yet been arrested according to Thames Valley Police's last update.

The man's tragic death has caused shockwaves in the community - and it is not the first time a pedestrian has died on Hughenden Avenue, with at least one other known incident in the past five years.

On November 28, 2016, 62-year-old pedestrian Margaret Nalepka - who lived on the road - was hit by a car and died.

Unlike the latest shocking incident, Miss Nalepka's death was not caused by a hit-and-run and a coroner ruled she died as a result of an accident.

Speed was not a factor.

But the two deaths have left High Wycombe residents angry amid complaints Hughenden Road is "dangerous".

Hannah Venables wrote that she lives along the road and has "nearly been killed just crossing the road".

She wrote: "I live along this road and I can tell you how dangerous it can be, people jump those lights all the time and the speeds some people come up and down are ridiculous!

"I’ve nearly been killed just crossing the road. So many people have been killed innocently and nothing is ever done.

"This poor man and his family, I hope they get justice and the driver gets caught."

Karen Summers added: "This happened outside my house. It's a nightmare on the junction with Telford Way. They never stop or look left as they pull out. Cars tear down the road even if I am half across it getting off the drive rather than wait."

Gianna Rollini added that there needs to be some extra measures put in place on the road to improve safety.

She wrote: "How sad - condolences to his family. We have been saying it for years there needs to be speed bumps or cameras. So many fly down and bomb up it too. Plus it is so dark there where he was hit."

Karen O'Rourke also added on Twitter that there are "speeding vehicles on this road day and night".

The Bucks Free Press has asked Buckinghamshire Council if they will be addressing any safety concerns on Hughenden Avenue.
