Campervan becomes stuck at Marlow Bridge

Crews from High Wycombe were called to the three-tonne weight-restricted bridge at 12.53pm.

The Fiat campervan became stuck in between the contentious bollards installed by Buckinghamshire Council to stop overweight vehicles crossing the iconic structure.

There were reports of long queues along the Bisham Road as firefighters worked to release the vehicle.

The historic bridge has seen its share of drama throughout the years, with HGVs repeatedly exceeding its three-tonne weight limit.

There is also a two-metre width restriction on the bridge.

In 2016, it was closed for several months after a 37-tonne lorry went over it and caused significant damage to the structure.

And in 2018, an investigation found “clear evidence” that vehicles heavier than the three-tonne weight limit frequently use the bridge, sparking fears the beloved landmark could be permanently damaged if drivers continue to flout restrictions.

The former Bucks County Council and the new Buckinghamshire Council have installed several different styles of bollards at the bridge over the years in a bid to stop overweight vehicles trying to go over it.

Many residents took to social media earlier this year to critique the “new look” bollards, with a campaign launched to remove them just weeks after they were installed.
