This week we continue our occasional series of pictures showing children at different schools around the district, by taking a look at Godstowe School, off the Amersham Road in High Wycombe.

Godstowe was England’s first all-girls Prep School.

Mrs Scott, Godstowe’s founding headmistress, received much encouragement from Miss Dove, the founder of Wycombe Abbey.

In 1900 the land for the school was bought and preparatory construction work began.

The Foundation Stone for the school was formally laid by Countess Carrington on July 22, 1910. Miss Dove and the Wycombe Abbey choir were in attendance.
