The devastated sister of a "treasured" teenager who died in the river in Bourne End has set up a fundraising page in his memory.

Jordan Veira, 15, died on Bank Holiday Monday after getting into difficulty in the Thames.

The family of the keen rugby player say they have been "overwhelmed" by the love and support they have received from the community since his tragic death.

His sister Kiara Veira has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to pay for his funeral.

So far, £1,686 has been raised.

She wrote: "He was a younger brother to me and an older brother to both his younger siblings and cousins.

"He was treasured by everyone around him and never failed to make people laugh; his own laugh alone was infectious.

"Jordan was a giver. He never complained when there was a lack of anything, even though he was in my heart, deserving of everything.

"He would never hesitate to put someone he loved first. I am proud to have had the opportunity to call him a brother.

"I had begged God for a sister and instead was blessed with the most wonderful little brother any sibling could ever wish for."

She added that the family has decided to honour Jordan by placing a memorial to him at the river in Bourne End.

Jordan's tragic death is not the first to have happened on the River Thames - which looks calm on the surface but can have strong hidden undercurrents.

Kyrece Francis, a popular 13-year-old Great Marlow School pupil, passed away on July 22, 2014, after getting into trouble in the River Thames when swimming with a group of friends in Marlow.

His tragic death occurred on the first day of that year’s summer holidays and he died less than a month before his 14th birthday.
